Top 3 Placerville Bike Trails
1. El Dorado Trail
The El Dorado Trail is one of the longest and most well-known biking trails in Placerville. The 28-mile trail is separated into several sections, some of which are paved, while other areas are not. From easy rides to the most challenging grades, there is something for everyone here!
The eastern portion of this trail begins in downtown Placerville and runs all the way through Camino. It’s a relatively smooth ride, although there is a slight uphill incline. The paved trail winds through the beautiful Sierra Foothills past old railroad lines, fields of wildflowers, a rustic tunnel, and the Weber Creek Bridge. There are many benches to stop for breaks, and the ride back is all downhill.
The El Dorado trailhead (Mosquito Rd.) in Placerville, CA is located just across the street from the Mosquito Road Station Lot. If you plan to bike along this trail, make sure to take advantage of our Two-for-One El Dorado Trail Biking Package! The package includes two bicycles for the day, an El Dorado bike map, and pick up and return at the Placerville Bike Shop, which is conveniently located along the trail.
2. Fleming Meadow Loop
Located in the Eldorado National Forest, the mountain biking thrill of a lifetime awaits you at Fleming Meadow Loop! Here, you’ll find difficult uphill grades paired with steep downhill plunges. Also known by locals as “8 Loop,” each loop of the trail has a different level of difficulty. The steepest incline is long and rises nearly 450 vertical feet to the summit. However, the views from the top are well-worth the challenging climb. Take a break to admire the scenery, and then enjoy a thrilling downhill ride down the mountainside. Happy cycling!
3. Sly Park Lake
If it’s picturesque views you seek, you’ll definitely find them at Sly Park Lake! Also known as Jenkinson Lake, this waterfront oasis has an amazing bike trail that’s off the beaten path. Because the trail closely follows the lake, this area stays cool even during the hot summer months – perfect for a day of mountain biking. There is very little change in grade or elevation, so this trail is great for beginners or couples on a casual date. After you’ve coasted around the lake, stop by one of the day use areas for a romantic picnic lunch under the trees.
