Explore the Story of Gold Country
All throughout the El Dorado County Historical Museum, you can find display cases containing tools used by miners during the peak of the California Gold Rush. They have gold pans and stamp mills, and those are just the beginning! As you dig your way through the exhibits, you’ll discover a whole world of gold mining that you never knew existed. Plus, there are handwoven baskets and tools from the Native American tribes that lived here before and after the Gold Rush. The exhibits here take you on a journey along the El Dorado County timeline dating back over one hundred years!
Dive Into History in the Research Room
For a more personalized experience, feel free to step inside the Research Room on site. Here, you can lose yourself in the El Dorado County history via journals, photographs, and records. Volunteers are happy to guide you in your research from Tuesdays to Saturday each week. They are experts on all things related to El Dorado County, so feel free to ask any questions you might have. The answers are sure to fascinate you!
All Aboard the Western Railroad!
The El Dorado Historical Museum in Placerville, CA, also offers train rides along the oldest railroad West of the Mississippi River! Hop on to get an authentic, historical experience and enjoy the scenery of Gold Country along the way. Rides typically last 30 minutes and are available every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
