Plus, there are handwoven baskets and tools from the Native American tribes that lived here before and after the Gold Rush. For a more personalized experience, feel free to step inside the Research Room on site. Here, you can lose yourself in the El Dorado County history via journals, photographs, and records. Volunteers are happy to guide you in your research from Tuesdays to Saturday each week. They are experts on all things related to El Dorado County, so feel free to ask any questions you might have. The answers are sure to fascinate you!

The El Dorado Historical Museum in Placerville, CA, also offers train rides along the oldest railroad West of the Mississippi River! Hop on to get an authentic, historical experience and enjoy the scenery of Gold Country along the way. Rides typically last 30 minutes and are available every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
