Where Is Apple Hill in Northern California?

Enjoy a tasting, take a romantic stroll through the vineyards, or visit one of the nearby orchards. 3 of the Best Apple Hill Wine Tasting Tours
While there are several excellent wine tours here, we have selected our top three to recommend to you. Don’t forget to print out an Apple Hill map to see a complete list of farms and wineries!
1. Lava Cap Winery
Named after the unique volcanic soil found here, Lava Cap Winery in Apple Hill has something to please every palate. From bold reds to refreshing whites, their collection includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Barbera, and Syrah. The tasting room is open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. year-round, except for major holidays. After your tasting, take a stroll through the gardens and enjoy breathtaking views of the vineyards.
2. Boeger Winery
Boeger Winery in Apple Hill is the oldest commercial winery in the county. The estate was homesteaded during the Gold Rush by the Fossati-Lombardo family, who made wine from the same vines that still produce Mission grapes to this day. Later bought by the Boeger family in 1972, the property became the first post-Prohibition winery in El Dorado County. Between the unique history and beautiful setting, you could easily spend an entire day sampling wines here. We recommend trying the Barbera, their flagship wine, or one of the many artisan blends. Then, browse the historic grounds and visit the on-site shop to take a few bottles home with you. The tasting room is open daily between 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. year-round, excluding major holidays.
3. Madrona Vineyards
With more than 27 different world-class wines to choose from, a visit to Madrona Vineyards should definitely be on your itinerary. The best part? These tastings are complimentary! During your experience, you may choose up to 10 different wines to sample. Then, learn all about the winemaking process when you take a tour of the winery and vineyard. Make sure to call ahead of time if you plan to take a tour since they are by appointment only. The tasting room is open daily from 11:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. year-round.
